#003 - Kumusta ka? How to Say “How Are You?” in Cebuano

#003 - Kumusta ka? How to Say “How Are You?” in Cebuano

Hi! Welcome to a short Cebuano lesson.

Today we’ll learn a very common greeting: Kumusta ka?

Kumusta ka? means “How are you?” You use it when you talk to one person in a friendly, casual way.

Now listen and repeat: Kumusta ka?
Again: Kumusta ka?

Kumusta is used to ask about someone’s condition, feeling, or situation.
Ka means you, when speaking to one person in a casual or friendly way.

Here are two simple answers you can use:
Maayo ko. That means “I’m good.”
Ok ra ko. That means “I’m fine.”

Let’s quickly understand them:
Maayo means “good.”
Ko means “I.”
Ra is a small filler word that softens the sentence. In this context, “Ok ra ko” feels like “I’m just fine.”

Now let’s practice a short mini conversation:
Kumusta ka?
Maayo ko.

Say it again with me:
Kumusta ka?
Ok ra ko.

Practice it out loud, and try it in real life.

That’s today’s Cebuano lesson. More coming soon. Kita ta!
