Welcome to another short Cebuano lesson.
Today we’ll learn a very common and friendly phrase: Kita ta!
Kita ta! means “See you!” or “See you later!”
It’s used when saying goodbye in a casual, friendly way.
You can use kita ta with friends, family, classmates, or people you meet during the day.
Here are a few typical situations:
After a short conversation:
Sige, kita ta!
Alright, see you!
When leaving a shop or restaurant:
Salamat! Kita ta! (Thanks! See you!)
When ending a call or message:
Sige, kita ta unya!
Okay, see you later!
Now let’s understand the parts.
Kita has two meanings in Cebuano.
It is written the same, but the meaning changes with stress (pronunciation).
-
kíta (stress on the first syllable) means “we” (inclusive: you and me).
-
kitâ (stress on the second syllable) means “to see.”
Ta is a short pronoun that comes from kita (we) and also means “we”, including the person you’re talking to.
So in Kita ta, the meanings come together as:
kitâ (to see) + ta (we)
Literally, it means:
“We see each other.”
That’s why Kita ta! is used just like “See you!” in English.
Now listen and repeat:
Kita ta!
Again: Kita ta!
Practice using it naturally at the end of conversations.
That’s today’s Cebuano lesson. More coming soon.
