#006 - Gusto Ko…: A Super Useful Cebuano Phrase (I Want)

Hi! Welcome to another short Cebuano lesson.

Today we’ll learn a very useful phrase: Gusto ko …

Gusto ko means “I want”.
You can use it in many everyday situations.

When you want a thing, you use og after gusto ko.

Here are some examples:

Gusto ko og kape.
I want coffee.

Gusto ko og tubig.
I want water.

Gusto ko og pagkaon.
I want food.

When you want to do something, you use a verb after gusto ko.
In this case, you don’t need og.

Gusto ko mokaon.
I want to eat.

Gusto ko matulog.
I want to sleep.

You can also use this phrase when ordering politely:

Gusto ko og kape, palihug.
I would like a coffee, please.

Now listen and repeat:

Gusto ko og kape.
Gusto ko mokaon.

You can use gusto ko with food, drinks, and actions. This makes it one of the most powerful beginner phrases in Cebuano.

Practice it out loud and try it with your own words.

That’s today’s Cebuano lesson. More coming soon.
Kita ta!
